“Literate” explores the language of land - the quiet fluency written into terrain through contour, erosion, memory and time. White topographic lines drift across a warm, earthen ground, mapping imagined elevations and unseen histories. The surface glows with clay reds and softened ochres, evoking soil, heat and the intimacy of place.
As a landscape architect, I read land professionally - its slopes, its systems, its subtle cues. In this work, that act of reading becomes something more personal. The contours are not precise survey lines; they are intuitive, gestural, almost handwritten. They suggest that landscapes hold stories long before we attempt to interpret them.
“Literate” considers what it means to truly understand a place. Not just to measure it, but to feel it. Not just to design upon it, but to listen to it.
This piece sits between mapping and memory - a reminder that the land is always speaking, and we are always learning how to read it.
