“Interpretation of the land” reflects my ability to read the landscape through form, colour and contour. As a landscape architect, I have spent years analysing land understanding slopes, patterns, movement and what lies beneath the surface. This work translates that professional language into something intuitive and emotional.
Rather than depicting a specific place, the painting represents how land feels once it has been absorbed, remembered and reimagined. Contours become expressive rather than technical, and the landscape is interpreted through memory, experience and instinct. It speaks to a way of seeing that comes from long familiarity reading the land not just with the eyes, but through lived connection.
This piece sits between observation and imagination, acknowledging the structured ways we learn to understand landscape while allowing space for personal interpretation, emotion and creativity to take over.
