This work comes from a way of seeing I’ve carried with me for years. Through my training as a landscape architect, I learned to read land through contours - to understand slope, movement, depth and flow just by following a line. Over time, that way of reading became instinctive. I no longer translate it consciously; I simply know what the land is doing.
In “Fluent”, the contour lines act like a language layered over memory and intuition. They sit on top of loose, expressive brushstrokes, reflecting the space between technical knowledge and felt understanding. This is how I see a landscape before it is built or even fully imagined - not as a finished place, but as potential, movement and story.
The work is about being fluent in place. About reading what is already there, and trusting that knowledge to guide what comes next.
