Outback memories

I grew up on a couple of acres, but when I moved out of home my mum and step-father made a much bigger change - they moved to a farm in northern New South Wales.

I visited often. Later, I brought my daughter along too. She loved racing through the open fields and hanging off the farm gates as I swung them open. The skies felt endless, the mountains wrapped around the property like a quiet backdrop, and the sunsets were unforgettable with huge washes of colour that stretched across the horizon.

When drought eventually forced them to move back to suburbia, it was a sad moment for all of us. Life on the land is beautiful, but it is also incredibly tough.

Not long after, my father and step-mother moved to a farm of their own; this one with steep hills and vast, star-filled skies. They’re still there today, living with the rhythms and extremes of the land: tornados, floods, and everything in between.

So while I’ve never lived in the outback myself, these places have left a deep impression on me. They hold some of my most treasured memories.

Those memories - the feeling of space, sky, and land - have inspired my new collection, “Outback Memories,” launching on 14 March.

The collection includes five original artworks, along with a sixth piece that will be given away. That giveaway artwork will also be released as prints.

About the Collection

These paintings capture the feeling of a place that stays with you long after you’ve left it.

Under wide, blush-tinted skies, the land stretches open and unhurried - carrying the quiet rhythm of paddocks, fences, and a homestead that has weathered seasons of change.

Fine white linework traces the structures and contours like memory itself: not loud or rigid, but softly persistent. These drawn lines suggest the way we map meaningful places in our minds - the slope of the ground, the shelter of a roofline, the moment when the sky feels bigger than anywhere else.
